Library with a Master Plan
This site is currently home to the out-of-operation University City High School.
The focus was to refine a master plan within a group of four members. Each member focused on a building design. My objective was the library (red) toward the northern of the site. The site plan we are refining was first organized by another group of students; the site's footprint and building placement is from that original organization. Collaboratively, the site was further developed around these four buildings as an ensemble. During the same time we each worked on our own building. The mixed use grocery/residential building is adjacent to the library (red). The community center/residential building is further south and and shares an alley way at 79'(above sea level). The final attached building is a daycare/residential building sharing a party wall to its north.
The book stacks and computer lab were contained within the volume of the main structure, while the outer rim of the library was mainly reserved for interior circulation and seating. The geometry of the building directs exterior circulation toward the southern buildings in the group while the the open windowed atmosphere addresses the grocery/residential building to the west which also includes a cafe and outdoor seating.
